Catalytic converter repair

I own a 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport with 65K miles. The other day I noticed something hanging from the bottom of the truck. When I looked I found that the shroud or cover of the Catalytic converter was peelled off. Will this cause me to fail my NY state inspection which is due in November? I am out of the 8yr 80k mile warranty so I will have to pay for repairs. Thanks…

Don't know about the inspection...but it sounds like its just the heat shield. Some cars have them on top to protect the car..and also on the bottom to protect from flammable materials like leaves being set on fire.

Shouldn't affect the inspection...but then, I don't know NY..... I'd just call a place or stop by and ask.

A exhaust shop can weld on a new one for cheap.

Exhaust gas analysis and/or check engine light illuminated with catalyst codes. You should be a long ways from having to worry about it.
