Ford Explorer - no heat

I have an 02 Explorer with about 122K miles. Wife turned on the heat and it will blow warm if she is moving down the road but when she stops, it blows cold. She said temp gauge was right in the middle. Is this just a thermostat change or would there be other things that could cause this to happen?

Appreciate any help..

make sure veh is not just low on coolaant.
might try-disconnect heater hoses at eng - not heater core-use garden hose to flush heater core-carefull not to damage core
possible malfunction at heater control valve
possible-thermostat-if a 4.0 sohc eng/not easily changed
