Acura blower motor/fan control --burning smell

1990 Acura Integra -- Last year the top two speeds on the fan control worked, lower speeds didn't. With fan off and temp off (to cool) heat still came out on its own. AC has not worked since I have owned the car.

Since it has just got colder and I have tried to get some heat, none of the fan speeds work and I have not got heat. Trying to take it off defrost to vent(?) etc I have gotten a horrible burnt smell. Very bad burning eyes, lungs .... open windows time and it takes a good while to go away. Has happened twice and don't want to try again.

Not to good with electrical stuff, but willing to try a few things.

Thanks much for any ideas.

Two things I see could be the problem:

1. Blower motor is shot or resistor pack needs replacing

2. Blend door actuator needs replacing or if vacuum controlled, hoses and vacuum needs to be inspected.

If you are not comfortable in this, it might be best left for a professional.
