Ford Explorer vin question
I purchased through a town auction an 1996 ford explorer
sight unseen.
when i run the vin on ford site
it tells v6 4.0l and where made but under additional info it says
wheel axels wheelbase 223.0.
i also purchased an 09 crown vic totaled during head on collision.
that vin checks out with the p71 code. the vic had 27g miles and the explorer 67g miles.
with the vic i will have my autobody guy check it out to see
how bad it is. I'm assuming the air bags deploying were a big chunk.
any help or pointers would be great.
btw it was dirt dirt dirt cheap.

on the explorer it says on vin decoder additional info wheel axel
wheelbase 223.
what does this mean. all specs show 188 inches for wheel base on four door explorers.

The Explorer wheelbase for a 1996 was 112". The overall length is 188. Two different measurement. That 223 number is probably some other code. Ford had a bad habit on the label of spreading out the words but clumping the # together.
