2001 Toyota Corolla Ran Sluggish

2001 Toyota Corolla ran sluggishly for 30 seconds after pulling off onto a side road after driving at highway speeds for about an hour. I was driving in a heavy wet snow storm at about 35-40 mph even though the roads were too warm for snow to accumulate on the highway and that the heavy wet snow covered my car's grille completely. My car's engine started to run sluggishly and rough and a heavy smell of gas came into my car's interior. I stopped the car and I cleared the heavy snow from the grille and it immediately ran fine after that. My question is after the snow covered the grille completely and my car ran roughly could there be any damage done to the engine even though the car runs fine now as it always did?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Probably didn't do anything. What most likely happened was the air intake was blocked and the car was starving for air.
