2001 jetta guide pin removal

How do you remove the front caliper guide pin on a 2001 VW JETTA?

Don't it just pull out, after you unscrew it? Maybe the friction with the rubber bushing is what is fooling you? (Just a guess based on other brakes I have worked on.)

I can't even seem to find the correct size metric hex wrench to loosen the guide pin. Does anyone know exactly what size metric hex this pin is or is there some other tool to loosen it?

Can you see with a light and mirror? Some are allen and some are headed bolts. You can blindly insert or try to make sure what type head you got. Possible it could even be torx I suppose. A manual like Haynes would tell you what it is. If you are a DIYer on your car, you really should have a manual to cut down on some of the frustration.....like this. (Certain metric sizes also cross over to standard, where both the mm or fractional inch size works on the same head.)

I do have a manual; VW SERVICE MANUAL by Bentley; unfortunately, no mention made whatsoever of guide pin hex size.
