Thermostat 2004 Chrysler Sebring convertible

Have put in three thermostats so far, none last more than a few years before they fail open. Any ideas why?

They don't make um like they used to LOL . Really Dodge/Chrys. have and still do seem to have this problem.Regular sevice of the cooling system should be done every 3 to 5 years I use an additive not available to the public but similar treatment products are avail. at any parts store.Look for a treatment that will help prevent corrosion and keep the ph level in check. This will help but I personaly reccommend changing the thermostat when doing the service anyhow. IE Flush system with chemical flush agent, drain completly and fill with fresh 50/50 mix of the proper coolant.

This is the reccommened coolant for your car from mopar

Fluid Type Specifications Cooling System Coolant

The use of aluminum cylinder blocks, cylinder heads, and water pumps requires special corrosion protection. Mopar Antifreeze/Coolant, 5 Year/100,000 Mile Formula (MS-9769), or the equivalent ethylene glycol base coolant with hybrid organic corrosion inhibitors (called HOAT, for Hybrid Organic Additive Technology) is recommended.

This coolant offers the best engine cooling without corrosion when mixed with 50% Ethylene Glycol and 50% distilled water to obtain a freeze point of -37C (-35F) .

If it loses color or becomes contaminated, drain, flush, and replace with fresh properly mixed coolant solution.

IMPORTANT: The green coolant MUST NOT BE MIXED with the orange or magenta coolants. When replacing coolant the complete system flush must be performed before using the replacement
