Lacking power and shuddering when accelerating

I have a 92' Ford Ranger with 2.9 V6 and automatic transmission. Yesterday, I noticed that when I accelerate the truck shudders or vibrates. It seems to lack power and even feels like "something is holding it back" under vigorous acceleration.

It's ok when I am driving slower in city conditions but the problems appears on the freeway unless I drive it slow. Could probably be several things but thought someone might narrow it down from the symptoms described.

As it could be alot of things, when was the last time the fuel filter was changed out? Always better to start with the simple, and cheap things first.

I agree...

If regular maintenance has not been done on the vehicle, do those things and see if that solves the problem...

Spark plugs.
Distributor cap / rotor.
Spark plug wires.
Air / Fuel filter.

PCV filter.

Change oil, oil filter.

Check fluids.
Check air in tires.

Oxygen sensor should be replaced every 30,000 miles.

Clean battery terminals (Leave disconnected for 10 minutes if you have changed the oxygen sensor).
