Question 01 Dakota 4x4 steering universal joint..

Would this be a big and hard job to replace? A steering shaft universal joint under the hood closest to the steering box needs replaced. It is causing too much steering wheel play which makes it hard to drive straight down the road. Is it a job I can attempt or should I go to a professional (dealer or garage mechanic)?

you should be able to do that with out any problem given you have some mechanical aptitude and general hand tools with a vise

Ya its a DIY project but I'd recommend replacing the lower shaft in it's entirety it only runs about 80 bucks takes care of the problem(comes with the upper joint as well) and can be done in about 45 min without having to remove the steer column and all the air bag hassles that come with it not to mention the hassle of pounding out the old joint.
Good Luck
