Question Wheel bearings, where are they located

on a Dakota 4x4 in the front wheels? If they go bad is there just noise or just movement in the front wheels or both? Thanks for any replies.

Bolted into the front Knuckles. They can be noisy, exhibit movement, both or neither.

Ive seen bearings "Growl" for years, with no movement, and Ive seen them blow apart without a sound.

Not bullet proof , but try this as a starting point. drive the truck in a straight line at 15 -20 MPH. gently rock the steering wheel left to right. the direction that changes the noise, is opposite from the bad bearing. (Left turn right bearing, Right turn left bearing)....

As far as movement, lift the car by the FRAME, and let the wheels "HANG-Free"....Grasp the top and bottom of the tire, and shake up and down, any movement indicates a bad bearing...(Provided the lug nuts are tight--)..
