02 Ford Ranger 3.0L

I have the above vehicle bought used in May, it has the check engine light on.

It is code P0340 camshaft position sensor, I have been to the library and can't find the location for this sensor. It only has 1 wiring harness and one bolt hole on the replacement, so I know it should be on top somewhere.

Can anyone direct Me to the location?

Thanks, Bill

Please move to trucks

the sensor is on top of what used to be the distributor - in the very back & center- of the upper side of the engine.
if it has been'chirping'-or if when you remove the sensor-the small square tab inside is broken.
the problem is with the drive is self-(the housing & shaft that is where the dist used to be)!!
if you decide to reclace the drive-use caution-it has to be 'timed' just like a distrubitor!!

Thanks very much, I could not find anything in any research book as to location.

The truck runs okay with CEL turned off, but comes back on within 29 miles, hope this will fix it. Bill

I bought one from AutoZone, it was the wrong one, so I got one from Advance. The

sensor is located at rear of left cylinder head just below spark plug wires. The 3.0L

engine has a sensor with 2 bolts, not 1 like I thought. Bill
