Potato

How does a chunk of potato cure an external radiator leak? Someone told me this trick many years ago and have used it myself with a great deal of success. Just curious about how it works. Thank you much.

it's banana, not potato. they had it on mythbusters. lasts about 20 minutes, so it's a temp fix to get you close to civilization.

A piece of potato worked on a truck I had for a couple years until I lost the diveshaft. Should have realized that when U joints make noise they should be replaced.

Ethylene glycol...... Glycol mixes with starch to form crystalized SUGAR......Works equally well with oatmeal.

Thank you much. Also heard that ground black pepper cures a heater core leak by blocking the leak, never tired that. Also heard the nasty effects of bologna on a car finish. Strips the paint.

Coffee...Coca -Cola.... any "Beverage" with an "Acid" base will do.......Bologna, pepperoni, salami...Then get started on your cheeses.....

Yes the pepper works on heater cores, but unlike the chemical process of the potato...it just plugs the leak, and most of the core to boot.
