Horn sticks and sounds by itself

2000 Grand Cherokee Laredo

My horn has been going off by itself, when the car is off and parked. It sticks and will not shut off until the fuse is removed. Any ideas what could be causing this??

Thank You.

Next time it happens.....Note whether or not the parking lamps flash.

Factory security systems can be reset by turning the key in either the passenger door, or tailgate.

If this is just the horn system, it could be anything from Horn pad, to clockspring, to relay or a shorted trigger wire anywhere in the circuit.

Sounds like its the contacts under the horn pad. Horn pad has to be removed and the contact (which is in essence a round metal ring) needs to be replaced. Unfortunately steering wheels can be kinda tricky to take apart and put back together....

Whatever actuation you have on the steering wheel is probably the culprit. There is a collapsed spring or dried out plastic allowing the contacts to close. Once I had a GMC that blew the horn itself when the temp dropped below freezing. The plastic cover contracted so much from the cold, it acted like someone pressing on it. Replace it with a used steering wheel cover from a junkyard and it never happened again.

Had that happen on a '85 Volvo 240 wagon about 15 years ago. The horn had to be replaced.
