Looking for a car lift!
Basically, I'm trying to lift a 1999 mercury cougar with a 2892 lb curb weight. I have a 2 car garage and space is an issue, but not the decider of what lift I'm going to get (though it helps) . Measured out my ceiling height is 148`, and I have yet to measure my concrete but I'm willing to do the work when the time comes.
I need it to be able to move, but I also need to get UNDER the car.
I've come down to a few choices and these are some of them: feel free to show me some other lifts!
BendPak XPR-9F Two Post Lift, 9,000 Lb. Capacity, Floor-Plate, Narrow
or
Specifications - MaxJax Lifting System by Dannmar
are the ones I've been looking at.
I just need help deciding. Please have *reasonable* feedback!

In 1997 I bought an Eagle 4 post lift. It has large castors that can be attached so you can move the lift even with a vehicle on it if the floor is smooth. I have not had a moment's trouble with it and use it very frequently - I have a track car. The only thing when you first purchase one....make sure your head clears the track before you attempt to stand up! Bonk!
Some people prefer the lifts with the arms as opposed to tracks. These have to be attached to the floor, however.

Anyone got any reference on owning this product? I want a personal opinion before I grab it.

I'm sure the 220V variety lifts faster than the 110V variety which is what I have. My lift also has two sliding trays on which bottle jacks can be placed to raise vehicle while it is on the lift. It also has three sections of drip pans that are handy for catching dripping liquids.

torquepower85,
Must be careful with craigslist. Good deals are possible, but know a few guy’s that got burned. My opinion. Pay the difference and deal a reputable company that offers a warranty. Think about it.

A good friend bought a MAX LIFT, search Jay Leno and lift and you will see the video. It was about $1600 new and he lifts his '66 GTO with it, it's good for 5000#.
Fantastic product, works great, leaks hydraulic fluid like a pig! He has been struggling with puddles of fluid since new. The mfg gave him new connectors, still leaks like a pig! He is buying new fittings from a hydraulic place next.
The product is great and if it were me I would hold MAX to the fire to fix the leaks. Leno's video even brags about no leaks..wrong!

here's the thing: kid owns his repair shop. in order to have them installed and running, he had inspector coming over and checking those lifts through. i had my silverado on it.
his whole entire shop is equipped with everything off clist. tools he has, i am still salivating. few bucks here, pennies there. businesses go out of business, right timing and cash on hand does miracles. even garage sales. i bought lifetime warranty socket wrench on g-sale for 10 cents. turned around, went to store that had them in stock, and replaced for free. that was cool $19 saving.
reputable company is reputable company, no argument. but we let someone else to fork for premium, then we get it for 70% discount later.
same goes for cars. why buy new, if it loses 20% value the very moment it crossed dealership's gate?

Yep... that's it. The leaks are not in the cylinders or the hoses, but the quick connect fittings suck bad! They are some cheap Jap - O - Nese fitting. Other than that, its a fantastic lift!
There is one other thing too, their install instructions for the floor bolts is wrong, we had a heck of a time and they pulled right out of the floor! My buddy contacted the manufacturer of the inserts that go in the floor and he sent them the install instructions from Maxx, they said that they are dead wrong. Maxx is supposed to fix the instructions. The insert company felt bad that Maxx screwed up and they sent him brand new replacement stainless inserts.

This was about 13 years ago....It cost 2800 bucks and had a year or two waranty. Bit more expensive than the prices I'm hearing now. With 5 vehicles, I've gotten my money's worth.

Damn, it's lasted 13 years? Out of curiosity, is it still in good shape?

I can find out the name, they are the same as ones that came with the lift except they sent him stainless ones!
Quite honestly the lift is great other than the leaks. Remember, that type of lift is not a screw drive, the cylinders extent up thru the frame, you need decent ceiling height.
