2003 Ford Explorer 6cyl.4.0

Hi, need help to find out why I get a serg (jerking) motion when driving. Most of the time around 40 mpr.

Don't always happen, comes and goes and does not stall out, just that serg that I can feel like it's not getting enough fuel or uneven air/fuel mixture?

Thanks for any help,
Duke of ....

Address and rule out the basics first. That would be:

Misfires.
Vacuum leaks.
(intake manifold leaks are common in Ford trucks.
Air leaks.
Exhaust leaks.
Fuel pressure and fuel volume issues.

For 1998 - 2003 Models:

Fuel pressure and volume must be within 5 PSI of actual value 1 minute after fuel pump is off. (30 – 65 PSI). Can only be confirmed with “Fuel Pressure Gauge”.

Ignore the “Check Engine Light”. Even if it’s off you should have a computer scan done. A scan is free, so you have nothing to lose. The scan could reveal a one more codes that may shed some light on the stumble. Auto Zone and other similar stores do computer scans for free. Have a scan done. If there are codes write them down so you don’t forget them. Then post the code (or codes) here so we can see them.

Ford Explorer Jerking motion

Had a friend tell me that the problem is the Differential. So lost and not too smart. lol

Reckon a test drive by someone who knows Ford Explorers is my best bet at this point.

Thank you very much for your time,

This sure sounds familiar. If you are bored, you can read through my two threads about that issue, that has generated quite a few responses.

If you take your car somewhere, let me know what YOUR problem was.

You could have an entirely different problem if say your problem regularly occurs at 40. Mine is sporadic. And the calling for more fuel has nothing to do with it. I can floor it going up a hill, and not have it do it. Have YOU tried flooring it up a hill? If you do, would yours starve for fuel, and never recover, until you slowed back down?

Thanks, I'll try what you said and let you know what I find out.

Kinda hope it is the differential because it's under warrenty. Some engine items are not under warrenty, things like fuel ejectors.
