2003 Alero misfire

2003 Alero misfire
Wifes care is getting a Cylinder 3 misfire reading when I put code reader on it,Will run rough for awhile then clear up and run smooth.Could this be a faulty ignition coil??

It could be a plug or a transformer, the diagnosis should be fairly easy.
These things are supposed to last "forever" or 100K miles, in theory...
Pull the plugs, examine the coils, measure the coils resistance.
A GM repair manual should be inexpensive and available, a must for the DIY..

swap #3 and # 1 plug wires. If your miss moves to #1 you found the problem. Also check the terminals on the coil that serves #3 to see if it is corroded. Normally, and I hate to say this, but when a cylinder misfires when first started after sitting awhile, this usually indicates something a little deeper, say a leaking intake or head gasket. Read coolant is getting in the cylinder and it fires the plug poorly until the coolant is burnt off. Are you having to add coolant but don't see any on the ground?
