intermittent horn problem 2005 Suburban

2005 Suburban 1500. When the weather gets cold the horn won't work until the interior gets warmed up. The horns work when I depress the panic button on the remote or when I lock it with remote and hit the lock button again to get the horn response that it is locked. So the horns themselves work. Where do I begin looking? Is this a DIY problem/solution or skilled mechanic problem/solution?

horn connection in steering wheel

From the info you offered, if the horn only works when the interior or engine compartment of the vehicle is warm, then I would think it is a problem in the steering wheel. The key is that the horn does work cold when you use the remote. Iwould think this is something you need a tech to diagnose since you would probably need to disassemble the steering wheel which contains the airbag. A very tricky operation.
