Brakes making noise in reverse
I have a 2004 chevy Impala and when you go in reverse my wife says she hears/feels a clunking noise when the brakes are applied such as backing out of the driveway? I drove the car the other night but didn't really hear or feel anything. I don't like the way the brakes feel on that car and never did anyway. You have to really apply a lot of pressure to get them to lock up. ABS brakes I guess. Car only has 50k on it and I've replaced the rear rotors and pads about 2 years ago. I'm going to replace the front pads on it Saturday but I don't think that's the issue. Any ideas would be appreciated.

well, so did my 04 CRV. rear brake pads will reset on guides, when applied in reverse, with slight click. my 07 Camry makes moaning noise from the rear when brakes are applied. my wife's RX300 clicks faintly when in reverse.
CRV had spring loaded shims between pads and guide, i figure they compressed and pads clicked.
never had any issues....
yeah, tell me about GM brakes... lame, huh? one thing i really like about my Camry, is brakes are predatory. i can seriously stop it on a dime, everything flying forward inside and in the trunk. my Silverado- you want to really stop, you have to step with both feet on brake pedal.

Thanx for the reply uk. Yeah, my old silverado was that way too. I bought a new silverado this summer and when you press on the brakes on it YOU STOP! Front pads need replacing anyway so I'm going to put them on but I know that's not going to cure the issue.

i have to split your post in a half.
i do not think you have any issue with those clicking pads. this been brought up by many and in various places. i have never ever seen anyone having catastrophic problems with that click. i have seen quite a few that did waste a lot of dough for nothing, replacing calipers, guides, pads, etc. you post a question like this in any forum, in 2-3 days you will have all kinds of very expensive advice. my principle is - don't fix it IF IT AIN'T BROK; if it's brok, fix it right away. it ain't brok. it clicks - turn the music up. my wife is good about this. hey, what's this light about? is it ok to drive with it? ok, i'll pay no attention to it then. and she does.
so, new Silvie has brakes improved? good. many complain that it has lame brakes. i learned to keep large distance from a car in front of me. and i do not tow, it's dirt hauler for the property. and it does stop, but it is simply scary how it does this. vaguely is prolly a good word to use.
