Brake light problem 97 plymouth voyager

Left brake light is out. Right one works and have replaced bulb. Does brake light switch control each side separately? Could it let one side work and other side not work? Thanks

Use a test light or volt meter at the socket not working to see if you are getting electricity to the socket. I had a funky socket years ago where I had to insert the bulb in and turn just so to get it to light.
You'd have to check a wiring diagram (see Autozone.com for one for your vehicle) to see if it is one wire from switch to backlights or two wires (one for each side). I'm guessing one wire that gets split near the back end somewhere.
