If it is the fender mounted one and not the multiband one used for On Star, you will need to take off the front wheel, and remove the inner plastic fender. The antenna base will have two bolts inside the metal fender to release. I think there is a wire connection behind the glove box to disconnect and reconnect the new cable. Some of the GM antennas had a screw in mast to the base for situations like yours, but I am also not sure about the Trailblazer. If it is a screw in type and there is still some mast left you could try to unscrew it, though I am guessing in your case it may all be one piece, but check that anyway as long as the base mount is not damaged.

Sounds exactly like what I had to do to replace the antenna on my 92 Olds.
