Pontiac Aztek EVAP System
The "Service Engine Soon" light came on a few weeks ago. ReplacedThe gas cap, and had the light reset. Everything was good for about 2 weeks. Had pressure in the system everytime the gas cap was removed. Now I have no pressure in the system, and the dash is illuminated again. Checked all the lines, and hoses. everything looks good. However, when it is reset the light illuminates on the dash. Does anyone know something about these EVAP systems. The vehicel is a 2001 Pontiac Aztek, 4.3L FWD. Thank you

I think it is time to have the OBD2 diagnostics read for fault codes. You are assuming all is related to the evap system because the SES lamp had come on, but it maybe something different also, as there are many many fault codes that will bring on the SES lamp.
If it is still an Evap issue from any fault codes, did you replace the gas cap with an OEM cap from the dealer? My experience with GM vehicles is that the aftermarket caps are too universal and often will not seal consistently with GM products. You could end up getting your money back on what you bought if not GM OEM, and spending the extra $5 or $10 on a correct GM approved cap. I would regardless, but let us know about the kind of cap you installed, and what code(s) are now showing up.

It is an after market cap. However, like I wrote the system was fine for 2 weeks. Then the lite came back on. I took the vehicle to a GM dealer, and they hooked up their OBD II scan tool to the vehicle. the scan tool came back with a problem in the EVAP system. Is there anyway to get schematics of the EVAP system for this vehicle?

I am thinking that there should be something on the inside of the hood, or elsewhere in the engine compartment in regards to the EVAP system diagram. A next step might be to check the hose connections for leaks where they join onto the charcoal canister for a starting point but also still consider whether your cap is still sealing correctly. I lived that situation before with an after market GM cap so perhaps I am a little more senstive about it. You may also want to visually check all hoses starting at the filler neck, but sometimes small leaks can only be found through other testing. Any rubber hoses are all now 10 years old and are potential system failures.

I had the same problem, on a 02 blazer. The light came on 2 weeks before my inspection was do. I went to auto zone, and had it scanned. I bought a new cap, the seal in the old one, you see was all cracked, still didn't work. Took it to the dealer, and they filled the system with smoke, and found a cracked hose. The sixties was so much easier, a hand full of tools, and you could fix anything.
