Question Does anyone know the going rate to have strut towers replaced....

I have a 2000 Ford Taurus SE , 3.0L Duratec 24V V6 w/ 87k miles. I know I need to have strut towers replaced- was told they'd need the car for the entire day and it would be $600. Is that a fair amount to be charged for this job? Btw- I'm in Central Florida. Thank you for your input!!

Did a quick lookup at rockauto.com and looks like the struts run about $50-80 unless you get the fully assembled ones with new springs that run $100+. We had a thread running a while back, can't remember make/model, but I think the poster was quoted something like $1200, something like that, which we all agreed was highway robbery. To do struts on all four corners, I don't think $600 is out of line. Call it $300 for parts and maybe 3-4 hours labor at $80-100/hr and you get to $600 pretty fast.

Is the ride bouncy or harsh and/or do you have uneven tire wear? 87k miles is not a lot of miles on struts unless the Ford oem's are prone to failure; hadn't heard that about them.

Good catch, 2gd! I was assuming he meant the struts.
