Explosion Proof Fan (arcless)
Ques. Are electric automotive cooling fans explosion proof (arcless)?
I'm building a temporary paint booth and need an explosion proof fan for venting.
I have a new double fan assembly for a Chevy Equinox sitting in my garage. It would make a great venting fan but only if it is explosion proof and if not......any suggestions for alternative fans. ( i'm not going to spend $1,000 to $2,000 for a real paint booth fan for a one-time paint job)

The answer to your question is quite simple!
No, the fan assembly you are talking about is not explosion proof.
The only ones that are have a tag that certifies this status.
You might check farm supply or surplus stores.
You should be able to find a used or agricultural fan for not too much money.

To further Greg's comments, only a TEFC (totally enclosed fan cooled) rated motor will do close to what you want, but still won't be certified. Or you could mount the fan outside the building in the atmosphere and duct the air from point to point.
