Gas cans.

So I am in the market for 5 gallon gas cans. I want to be able to transfer fuel into a vehicle from them. Based on some of the reviews I've read, typical cans don't have spouts long enough to fill vehicles. I was thinking about using a funnel like this: RhinoGear 05034 Super Funnel : Amazon.com : Automotive to get the fuel in the gas tank. Any thoughts or alternatives?

I used to have a funnel like that, which worked great for adding oil, but worked poorly for gas. You had to pour very slowly or you'd spill a lot of gas due to the angle that the spout sits. One with a flexible or 45 degree neck would be better, IMO.

I have 3 5 gall cans made in Canada, sold at O'Reilleys, both have very long flexible spouts. About 2 feet long. They do not have good bottom handle, otherwise - I can pour gas into any tank easy. Spouts are also self venting.

Well, maybe a foot and 1/2. Still very suitable.

List: Fuel Can - Plastic | O'Reilly Auto Parts

And yes, I do have same funnel, even 2. They are very suitable to pour ATF in, due to narrow neck at the tip. But that's it.

I have a 2 gallon can that has a long spout.

What I did was pour from the 5 gal to the 2 gal and fill the cars. May have to do a couple times but very easy. When I get real internet back I will post the can I have.

Ha...got all those funnels beat. Took a length of heater hose (?) that fit over the spout tightly then jammed a piece of smaller heater hose into that. The smaller piece has the same ID as the spout. After I broke off the stupid vent lock lever that took 3 men and a monkey to manipulate while trying to pour gas, it works like a champ.

Just need to make sure the big hose goes a couple of inches on the spout, and put a hose clamp on it. Mine popped off once when I put too much angular stress on it.

Yes, I know, heater hose isn't for gas, but it's been on there for 3 years and hasn't rotted off yet. I highly doubt the small amount of contamination of the rubber hose in the gas makes any difference.

Opens the filler flap just fine.

Maybe I should try my 2 1/2 gallon can and see if that works. It is one of the newer kind that doesn't leak vapor. I didn't think it would be a problem until someone in one of the reviews said it was. Shrug! I only have to get the nozzle to push the little metal flap at the top, right?

Shrug! I don't know! Don't that have all kinds of other stuff in the way these days that prevent siphoning or something?

The flap isn't to prevent siphoning....there's a coil type baffle thingy further down. I'm not sure of the flaps purpose though...splashing?

Mine looks like this. The end is small enough to fit in that flap. Has a good angle also so all the gas come out.

well, now that we are in bragging contest, cuz mine have flexible spouts that DO FIT ANY TANK (grrr) you can use can at any angle also. Comes handy, when you have not much gas left, and to pour it all in, gas can starts pressing against the fender.

I like old-school military Jerry cans. They can be found in good used condition.

The filler hose is a separate part that fits over the spout similar to how the cap does.

I have one of the good old Canadian made ones which works good.
If for any reason I can't get the right angle or whatever, a simple siphon hose works. A hand pump siphon hose can get the fuel into the oddest angles and makes can selection a 'pick whatever was convenient'.
