fuel pressure release help please
'93 Jeep Cherokee Grand Wagoneer 5.2L engine need to change out fuel filter. Manual says to release fuel pressure beforehand I need to "obtain the fuel pressure gauge/hose assembly from the fuel pressure gauge tool set 5069. Remove the gauge from the hose and place gauge end of hose into a container. To release fuel pressure, screw the other end of the hose onto the fuel pressure test port."
If I don't have this gauge tool set 5069 isn't there some other method or easily obtained hose hookup/connection to accomplish the fuel pressure release?
thanks

Most any fuel injection pressure tester will work, not just the one in the manual. IMO now would be a good time to invest in one.
The shrader valve on the fuel valve is where you screw in the fuel pressure tester. You could bleed it like you'd let air out of a tire but that will spray fuel on that part of the engine. That's why it's best to have the tester where you can direct that fuel into a container.

The fuel gauge pressure tester I borrowed from auto parts store was useless. It had about 6 different adapters, and none of them would fit on the fuel pressure test valve. So this is what I did instead:
1. Let engine cool
2. Removed fuel tank cap
3. Removed the fuel line that exits fuel pressure regulator
4. Turned the ignition key a few times without starting engine
5. Pressed screwdriver on fuel test valve, a small amount of gas squirted out
Yes, a little gas spilled on engine. But this worked for me. Best to follow approved safety procedure
for your make/model.

just take a small screw driver and depress the valve on the fuel rail. just do it in a none spark/flame area.or if your worried about fuel spray, do what the-tow-guy said. i personally don't even worry about relieving the pressure, but Ive done it many many times and know to wear goggles, along with a catch pan.

Yeah, definitely what Iceman says. I remember a few years back, I was changing out fuel filter under my truck. Both my eyes were drenched in gasoline, and I spent the next 5 minutes flushing out my eyes with garden hose. Learned my lesson on that one.
