2006 Nissan Murano

My wife has a 2006 Nissan Murano AWD with 82,000 miles on it. Recently it began making a ticking/rattling sound when under load. The sound ceases the moment you let off on the accelerator, and is louder going up hill than when driving on a level road. The sound began as an intermittent problem and is now constant. It also appears to be getting louder. It is clearly coming from under the hood. This car has had numerous design defects which have been reported on, but cannot find this problem discussed. Can someone help?

PS. took it to the Nissan dealer, but problem did not occur then so no diagnosis.

If the ticking/rattling sound is pinging only under load you could have a failing knock sensor. Need to have the the vehicle scanned for codes and see if a
P0328 code comes up for example.

1. run can of Seafoam for 500 miles in engine, change oil. Lifters ticking
2. your timing is off. ticking, like crunching sound, under load/going uphill, is normally associated with timing too advanced. Dealer only, it's electronic timing.

Did you install a different brand of oil filter at the last oil change? Some engines get noisy with certain oil filters on them. Some car companies have service bulletins warning against certain oil filter applications.
Just a thought.

Check your oil level, I can almost guarantee your low on oil. Depending on how long it's been like that you could be a few quarts low. The oil light won't come on
