Comparing 2011 Ford Edge to 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee
I'm currently racking my brain to decide between purchasing a used 2011 Ford Edge or used 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I test drove them both today and enjoyed the ride on both. The Edge certainly drove more like a car, but I enjoyed the power and handling of the JGC. The costs are about $2,000 apart with the JGC being the more expensive car. Both are pretty well loaded and come with plenty of amenities. Does anyone have any thoughts on the 2 vehicles that might help me decide? Obviously this comes down to what I really want, but I thought I'd check to see if anyone had any advice when it comes to these 2 SUVs. I've driven a Honda Civic for the last 10+ years so I'm trying to take everything into consideration before making the jump. Thanks in advance for any replies.

This is not necessarily a reflection of how reliable they are but I saw a survey recently of the top 33 car makes and their perceived reliability on the part of consumers - the Chrysler brands occupied spots 30-33 between Jeep, Dodge, Ram and Chrysler. Also, I own a 2012 Ford Fusion. Ergo, my recommendation should be clear to you

That is really my biggest hang up so far. I really did like the Grand Cherokee better as far as the feel of the car and the options go. The long term prospects seem to favor the Ford Edge, but I've also read a lot of frustrated reviews about the My Ford Touch features. They seemed a little overwhelming even in the test drive!

I can't comment on that as I don't have that feature - I'm a control freak and want to tell the car what gear to be in rather than it deciding, so I got the six speed manual transmission; it's only available on the bottom of the line model.

The 2011 Jeep GC was based on the Mercedes-Benz ML-Class and is not much like the 2010 in that the vehicle is a brand new mid sized SUV. I have several people that I know that have said to me that it's one of the best vehicles they have had in a long time and that the problems they had with the previous models of the JGC have all seemed to have been addressed and resolved. The 2011 Ford Edge seems like it is a vehicle that you either love or hate so it comes down to your personnel taste. They are both good vehicles so the choice is strictly yours.

I'm not a Jeep person myself (or Ford for that matter) but most of the people I come into contact with who have Cherokees seem to really like them. I do tow quite a lot of them, but generally older models with a lot of use plus they've sold about a billion of them over the years so it figures I would hook quite a few. Haven't had any experience with the Edge; not even sure I've had one on the truck yet.
