Gas cap light came on

Hi, I have a 2008 Chrysler Sebring 4 cyl. 2.4 My gas cap light came on today took the cap off and put it back on and clicked it 6 times and it's still on.Now I was parked in a church parking lot over night on a hill with where my gas cap is facing downward could that have triggered the light to come on?there are no signs of a gas leak and we don't smell any gas fumes and it doesn't seem to be losing any gas from the tank.
any help would be great.
Thanks.

It can take a few miles of driving for the light to go off, it does not usually do so instantly.

If it's like my Volvo, you have to have a dealer reset the codes. A regular OBDII won't do it. Do like Mitch says and run it a few miles, as it may reset itself. Mine manifested itself as a CEL, and it turned out wifey didn't put the cap back on when she fueled it up once. Gotta forgive her for that one, I guess, since I got a tank of gas out of it.
