98 Grand AM passenger windows will not work

my passenger window on my 98 grand am will not work. I do not have power to the window motor/regulator. I applied 12v to the motor/regulator and it is fine. I have 8.5 volts to the window switch. I have checked all fuses. Also, I have an open to ground on the wiring to the motor/regulator. Where should I look next?

Which window switch is getting power? Is power getting to the passenger door switch, but just not to the motor?

fusible links, and plenty of those on domestic vehicles.

or, say to the heck with it, and simply run bypass wire to the plug, from switch. you have power THERE, right? why bother?
