Unhappy 99 Land Rover Cooling

99 Land Rover temp gauge goes 3/4 on the scale. Minimal driving nets pint low in cooling resivour. No leaks visible or foaming in oil. Not familiar with this cooling system. Anyone have ideas.

You could have head gasket leakage from a cylinder to the water jacket; this could cause both elevated temp and loss of coolant and would not show up in the oil.

tailpipe is clean and dry, dosen't even have any soot build-up. I can see no exhaust, also usally note a sweet smell with leakage from the cooling system. Thanks for the thought.
