97 mercury villager gas smell

97 mercury villager gas smell

97 villager when the gas gets down to the level that the gas light comes on all you can smell inside the van and outside is a strong smell of gas but when looking under the van there is no sign of a leak has anyone had this problem if so what did you find out

My guess would be a leak in the evap emission control system. No check engine light? Here's a primer:

Tank/lines rusted. My son had a '93 Vlilager that needed new fuel lines and brake lines due to rust. Lives across thge river in Windsor.

these vans are horrible about the fuel line connecting to the fuel rail leaking. try wiggling it while running.
