Unstopable Buick Blower Motor

Everything was fine until it got cold. First cold start engaged the heater-blower motor on high...couldn't shut it off, so I turned ignition of....still it blew...full blast on high. Had to disconnect negative battery cable. When I reconnected negative cable, blower was off until I started the car.....then blower back on high.....wuzzupwidatt...? Thanx for any insights.
2000 Buick Century.

Sounds like there is a short to ground or a short to power in the blower motor circuit, only way to get a real definitive answer would be looking at the wiring schematic and grabbing a Multimeter and testing the circuits.

find the blower motor resistor. i believe these have the blower motor relay integrated into them, and they like to stick on. the relay only does the high setting. tap on it when its acting up and see if it quits. its under your glove box or on the fire wall in the engine bay

Does that car have like four fan speeds (four clicks) or is it the fancy variable speed system ?

The standard "off, 4-speed" switch
