1997 Honda Accord

My helper drives one. I do not know the size engine (little bitty thing), but it starts sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. We pulled the codes with my reader and it shows EGR fault. Clear the fault and it starts. One thing I noticed, however, when he turns the key "on", the gear selector on the instrument panel, PRD123, and it has a green light on "P", it will start. If he turns the key on and it has a green light on "P" and goes off, it won't start.

I really don't think it has anything much to do with the EGR as it does with something else, and clearing the codes, just corrects the issue overall.

I drive a diesel, so this gas thingy with all the spark plugs, wires, etc. boggles me. Give me fuel, turbo air and a little heat to start, and I'm fine.

Any ideas or places for me to help him look? Right now, he has my code reader in his console so he can get to work and back home every day, and I'd sort of like it back

1. clean EGR. remove and spray everywhere with carb cleaner. Reinstall. Won't hurt.
2. There's gear shifter sensor, that will not allow to start vehicle unless in neutral or parking. Apparently, it's not engaging right.
3. otherwise, all Honda questions go here:
Honda/Acura Main FAQ Page

You can actually email site owner, and he'll dig more help out for you. Very helpful bunch.
