1997 Blazer spark plug change problem

I have a 1997 4x4 blazer. Went to change the plugs and wires, hit a big problem. the middle plug on the drivers side, lies inline with the steering column. I have jacked it up, and have changed all other plugs and wires with no problem. Will I have to take apart the steering column to get to the middle plug (afraid of cross threading it).

Or use the spark plug socket with a wrench on the end instead of a wrachet
