Post Frozon Gauges and dead Battery

I have a 2001 Saturn sl2 When I drive for a short distants My Gauges freeze my RPM, Speedo, Fuel, Temp and the car dies when I try to start it the battery is dead. I have recharged and tested the battery and its OK. When I reconnect the battery the Gauges all go back to normal and it starts fine and run good until the gauges freeze. I Drive it just around the block and it will do the same thing again with the same result.

I would like some feed back Please Frozen and Dead in Ontario

Welcome to the forums! Have you had the codes read on the car, yet. That would be the first thing to do. Most auto parts stores will perform this free of charge. With that information, you will know more into which direction you should move. Let us know the codes.

sng1952,

Sounds like it could an alternator issue. Have an electrical system "Load Test" done. Many shops and auto part stores will do the test for free.

Thank You
Amy

I have checked the codes and the only code that comes up is that the battery voltage is low

I would next check the connections at the battery, and possibly change the cables, or at least, the cable ends to ensure proper connection to the battery. Your alternator may be operating properly, but if the connections aren't good, it isn't charging the battery, and it will die.

No.. The Battery has been replaced and the Alternator has been replaced as well
after testing the voltage at the Battery term not running and running it is not charging at all the voltage is 12.6 at both times

Ok....you measure 12.6v at the battery when it's off or the engine is running. That means that the alternator is not charging and with time the battery voltage will drop until battery goes dead again.

It sounds like you have intermittent wire connections. I would check inside the fuse box under the hood. You will need a meter or test light to check for 12 volts thru the circuits.

If you don't know car wiring or troubleshooting methods then it may be time to enlist the aid of a mechanic.

Are you still working on the car or has it been resolved, sounds interesting.
