Honda key repair?

My daughter recently broke the key to her Accord. The metal part of the key only extends into the plastic remote part by maybe 3/16" and that plastic will no longer hold the metal part.
She checked with the dealer about a replacement and they want $120.
Can a locksmith duplicate it at a reasonable cost?
Should I try to epoxy it together?
Presently she has it taped together but I don't think it will last long.
Any other ideas?

You didn't say what year, but you might want to check to see if it's a vehicle that requires computer programming when a new key is made. If so it won't matter where the key is made it may still need to go to the dealer for programming.

It's a 2007. She did mention that it required programming but acted like a locksmith could do it.
If indeed it will cost $120 I guess it wouldn't hurt to go with the epoxy first.
Thanks

Consider yourself/herself lucky its not one of the VW switchblade keys. 4-5 years ago a customer told me they wanted almost $200 for a replacement.

Ditto on newer Toyotas; my brother bought a used Camry recently before discovering they only gave him one key and I think he said two bills for that one, too.

Not sure about Honda, but my wife's Dodge Caliber has those gosh darned keys. BUT, if you have two keys, you can buy blanks on Ebay and reprogram them yourselves. One key, you are out of luck. Dodge wanted $150 to rekey and program a blank. I bought a blank on Ebay for $15 and sad sacked the salesman who sold us the car into having his guy reprogram it for free. Now I have two keys and can program my own.

Some key are code in a way they can not made out side the dealership. You will need the ID of the vehicle. From this they can make key's up. It cost a bit for those type keys.
However, if you have a single sided key it can be copy at any place that has the blank for it.
The other area is a locksmith. They cost a lot.
The top two are the best answe

Cool Used Liquid Nails

Im in Australia and Honda wanted to charge me $400 to fix the key. Both of my keys were broken. I fixed the key using Liquid Nails which I purchased from the hardware store for about $12. I left the key to set for about 12 days. The key is now super strong and the immobiliser is still disabled when i start up the ignition. Stoked!
