engine replacement

i have a 98 amigo with a six cylinder 3.2 automatic, my question- do i have to remove the engine with the tranny or can i pull the engine and leave the tranny in

i have always left the tranny in all the engine jobs ive done when dealing with forward facing engines. what i do first is unhook the trans and splitting the two. while supporting the front of the trans. i use a ratchet strap. that way i can remove the engine and reinstall it on to it mounts before fighting the alinement of the trans. for me its way easier to aline the trans after engine is in place then while trying to place the engine on its mounts.
