94 Tempo transmission problem

Hello
94 2.3 auto Tempo will not move out of 1st gear. Ok selecting rev. Speedometer works fine
Checked the throttle linkage to transmission OK. Removed Governor valve seems ok. Fluid level great. Fluid clean. Replaced the Speed Sense Switch only to realise that it is governor valve operated gear change.!!
Unsure what to do next?? Check filter?(fluid is clean)? Check for blockage to transmission cooler?? Both were suggested to me but don't think that these are a problem solver?
Cannot find a transmission manual on-line or even diagrams..

Before I drop the transmission oil pan to look inside, any suggestions. ( Apart from throw the car away lol))

Thanks
Arni

Transmission failing in forward gears but retaining reverse is pretty common across all makes/models. Don't know what in particular would go on a vintage Tempo, but it's almost certainly more $ to fix than it will be worth. I think it's been about 10 years since I even SAW a Tempo.
