Lights problem on dodge

My daughter has a 2008 dodge avenger. We were ahead of her on the interstate when we noticed that when she uses her left turn signal her left headlight goes out and when she uses her right turn signal her right headlight goes out. I have no idea how long this has been going on.Any ideas on what is going on here? I'm thinking a probable short but I hope I'm wrong. Thanks for any ideas.

It would not be a short as that would cause a fuse to blow out. It would be more like a ground issue to the light assembly but pretty strange to affect both sides.

Does it do the same thing with the headlights turned to "on" instead of "auto on" ?

if this is happening during the day its normal. its a feature to allow the turn signal to be seen well during the day. those day time running lights can make the turn not as visible.

It is part of the design of the car. Dodge builds that feature in so oncoming traffic can see your turn signal. Wifey's Dodge Caliber did the same thing. You'll find reference to it in the manual.
