2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee engine will turn over but not start.
I have a 2001 grand cherokee that will turn over but not start. there is power at the distributer coil. putting a test light at number 1 fuel injector while cranking the engine produces the following: Number 1 injector will fire once but no more. Can anyone advise? Single mother needs it for work. HELP

As far as I know, you have to turn entire powertrain TWICE for injector to fire. As piston is at its TDC twice, once on compression and once on exhaust.
But I am not sure why you trying to start with injectors, as car will start even on 2 pistons.
You should start with things more common - lack of spark and lack of fuel. That followed by timing being off. Then worry about injectors.

Truly, for a car with distributor, and age, basic things like bad dizzy cap and rotor come first. Followed by ignition pack, or whatever the name is, below dizzy rotor. It's a kidney shaped piece that reads rotor position or something like that, been a while since I dealt with dizzys. Distributor sensor, I believe.

Could be the distributor sensor coil or crank sensor.
Since the crank sensor is nearly impossible to replace because of its location luck would make that your problem.
Had to cut a hole in my firewall and replace from inside the vehicle on my inline 6.......either that or lift the engine!
One thing you could do is try to hear the fuel pump when you first turn on the key.
It will run for a couple of seconds each time youtry to start it.
