2001 grand cherokee oil press drop

The oil press drops to 10 psi to zero on idle, and rise when the RPM increase to 40 psi. The oil level seems ok. I don't see any oil leak. The engine temp is on normal range.

I would try replacing the sender unit. When it goes to zero are you getting any indication of actual loss of pressure? Knocking/tapping, etc?

When did this "zero pressure at idle" symptom start? Is this vehicle new to you or have you owned it for a while? What motor is it and how many miles on it? What is the service history?

Best check would be to get a mechanical gauge on it to see what actual pressure is being put out. I was going to say just change out the sender, but I did a quick look-up and it's a pricey little bugger, about 30 bucks.

Those oil senders fail a lot. If you don't hear the lifters at zero oil press. It is probably ok. Just to be on the safe side as you have been told check with manual gauge.
