79 impala. exhaust going into coolant???

hey all. first time posting on here. hope this is right. anyways. i have a 1979 chevy caprice.305 2bbr carb. i was driving and the side of the radiator blew out. due to exhaust laster i found. i put a new radiator in it .thinking it may be a blown head gasket .any ways i cut the exhaust off of it totaly going to put dual exhaust on it and noticeds it started much better .before you had to crank it alot befor it would start. im thinking cat converter may be the hole issue. ??? talk to me.

Welcome to the forums!

I wouldn't think the exhaust had anything to do with the radiator. I know a plugged cat will cause a loss of power so it might also make it harder to start. Stay tuned and see what the others have to say
