idiot light mystery

I was driving my 2010 jeep wrangler today and I thought I heard a click/pop, my wife said she thought it was chime .... and she has better hearing than me. Anyway, shortly afterwards I noticed the ESP/BAS light and the ESC indicator on. I even pulled over to turn the jeep off/on but the light stayed on. About 15-20 miles later I turned at a red light and both idiot lights went out. Any ideas as to what was going on?

ESP - electronic stability program
BAS - brake assist system
ESC - electronic stability control [part of the traction control system]

Sometimes a click/pop is a fuse blowing... which sounds possible in your case except the lights went back out.

Were you driving in heavy winds causing the vehicle to shake or excessive correction of the steering wheel ?

There is a pendulum type sensor in the center console that sense body attitude and may have tripped.

I was on a slight turn going about 50-55 mph went the light came on, no wind to speak of. When the light went out I was turning at a light - maybe 5-10 mph.

I never noticed anything wrong with how the jeep drove, if it wasn't for the idiot lights I wouldn't have known anything happened.

Have you replaced any tires lately?

No, the factory tires still have a decent amount of tread left and it's been about 5k since I rotated them last.

With the exception of start up and when in 4 wheel low, the ESC icon has only come on a couple of times before and that was on icy roads. Thought it was kind of funny that it had an idiot light that lets you know the rear end is sliding

Sometimes an intermittent loss of signal from a wheel speed sensor caused by a dirty connection can cause that.

The city street where it fixed itself was full of repaired pot holes so maybe it jarred off the dirt ??

on my cx9 i've had lights come on but then go off again themselves. sometimes it's just a fluke. i wouldn't worry about it unless they stay on.
