AC Compressor on a Ford Escape V6
Hi all, I have an '05 Escape V6 = the clutch on the AC compressor is noisy, I believe it is shot. I have looked at rebuilt compressors which are available, but further research shows that to properly do the job, I need AC manifold gauges and a vacuum pump to evacuate/recharge the system, etc. and I would have to go buy them. Now I am a DIY'er, just did complete brakes, ABS tone rings and can handle general repairs but I am thinking this may be one for the local shop? Any and all input appreciated!

I have had Do It Yourselfers who had installed the new parts on their AC systems and then come to my shop for evacuation, vacuum hold test, and recharge the system for them - no problem with that. Ask around at your local shops if they are willing to work with you. Or maybe a place that a friend deals with.
Once we pull down the vacuum and see if it holds for the required time period it is a good indication that the installation was done correctly. And I they don't have to guarantee you labor - if something should come loose a month from now (probably won't) - well its as they say " your dime buddy, not mine".

if the compressor is noisy i would be worried about metal being through out the system. which requires replacement of dryer/and orphace(sp) tube along with a flush of lines/condenser /evaporator. if it was just leaking id say you'll be fine just replacing a part, but not noise.
