Leather Seat Repair

I'm thinking of replacing the leather seat bottoms on my 2008 Acura MDX and am wondering how involved it is to remove the leather covers. For instance, do I have to remove the seat from the vehicle? New covers from the dealer are $350 each, so depending on the cost, I may get them re-upholstered instead. Regardless, they'll need to be removed.

I haven't recovered car seats since the 60's, but my recollection is removing the seats is the only way to get proper stretching of the material over the frame. Not sure on your vehicle, but my Volvo had a WHIPS system to help eliminate neck injuries in a rear end collision. Also, electronics galore that needs consideration.

According to the exploded diagram on the Acura website, the leather seat bottom is a removable/replaceable part, so I'm hoping it can be easily removed. I'll start poking around to get a better idea. Not exactly on the top of my list, but I'd like to do it eventually.
