Question What Year

anyone Know what year GM started using the Nylon covered upper timing gear in their engines?
vehicle in question is 1966 Olds Toronado

a friend of mine is looking to buy one, that is Supposedly never had any engine work done on it

It was either an aluminum or steel gear with nylon teeth.
In researching the best I could find was that they started in 1968.

One sure way to know if it was bad was to lock for plastic/nylon shavings in the oil.

That is probably pretty close because I remember in the early '70s Pontiac used the plastic gears too.
