04 Nissan Xterra Radio Display Problem

I have a 2004 Nissan Xterra, I am having trouble with the radio. As far as the radio it works fine, the only problem that I am having is that the light that lights up the screen at night does not work, During the day time I can see what station I am listening to but at night I need to turn on the lights inside of the car to be able to see the radio station. I think that if it was a fuse the whole radio would not work or the dash would not light up instead it is just that one display screen that does not light up, even the buttons to control the radio light up. Do I just have a bad radio?

Ask ther local Nissan dealer who does their electronics repair and contact that company.

I am in Canada and worked (I'm retited) for a company that did Chrysler Corp. repairs on all their car electronic systems. We were the ones you wanted to work on your car radio.

Thank You for the quick response. Any guess to what it would cost to repair?

No idea.
The company will likely tell you there is an estimate charge that will come off the final repair if you go ahead.

Unfortunately you have most likely one dead bulb.

There will usually be a flat rate repair for almost any repair. That flat rate depends on the type of radio.... like A/F/CD changer or A/F/Cassette, etc.

I serviced all OEM car radios and the ones that had I couldn't get parts or schematics for I sent to United Radio. Unfortunately they are on the opposite side of the country from you. You can still check with them for an estimate. They always did a good job.

United Radio | Quality Electronics Service Since 1923

You can search for Nissan OEM radio repair and maybe find something in your area. As a price guess...... $87.50- $124.50

Is this worth it? As far as I know any OEM headunit, repairs as such usually, are so expensive that it's more feasible to simply install a BETTER aftermarket headunit. You can get a VERY decent and absolutely modern Pioneer (I am a big Pioneer fan) unit for about $150. Then you'll have Bluetooth, USB port, and what not. LIkely even navigation. It's simply superior to whatever you have in 04 vehicle.

Good point as far as possibly getting an aftermarket radio, the C.D player is begining to act up also.
