2001 Chevy Malibu will crank but not start

I drove to the store and stopped the engine. When I came out the car would not start. It has fuel at the rail. It ran fine with ether sprayed into the air intake, but died when the ether was taken away. Does anyone have any ideas about this one?

Check fuel pressure. Symptoms point to dead fuel pump.

Welcome to the forums.

It has fuel at the rail.
How did you determine that ?

I'm inclined towards a fuel pump issue too.

check fuses...you may well have fuel pressure but no injector drive. Fuel pressure means within specs, not depressing the schrader valve at the test port and getting some fuel out of it. it must be done with a guage to be done correctly.
