More on 2012 CRV

Two 2012 Honda CRV questions.
1. When they cut new keys, can they match the new keys to the existing keys and the vehicle. They claim all keys must be present with the vehicle so all will match. We have resolved the issue, but I don't believe their explanation that they cannot match the existing numbers, thus allowing any keys not present to remain functional.
2. I have been trying to get them to load an updated software fix as we have experienced an unexplained dead battery and that issue seems to be common for this vehicle. The first two discussions with them, they said our VIN was not on the list. Third discussion I insisted they load the update at no charge regardless of whether it was on the list or not. When I went in, they forgot they agreed to no charge, but miraculously the VIN is now on the list.

Using SB 12-041 I looked for our VIN. All wheel drive, the range our number needs to fall in between is listed as (begins with 2HKRM4H54)
From CH600001 thru CH507051. The from and thru doesn't look correct as CH5 is lower than CH6. And, even if I'm reading it incorrectly, our number is CH63****.

If their Service Bulletin has the wrong numbers, others may be getting denied when they should be getting the upgrade.

Looking for better eyes than mine and some additional opinions.

The last three listings are for 2012 CRV and the first "from and thru" range in the last group for the AWD is the one in question. Best my eyes and the copy I printed can tell is the thru ends with CH507051. I think the CH5 almost looks like a CH6, but best I can judge it is a 5. Hoping others have better eyes. BUT, even if it is a 6, my VIN is outside that range, CH63****.

Not sure about your Honda but when my wife and I traded up to her '09 Camry it only had one key (a "master"). We took it to Wal-Mart (HD and Ace appear to have this capability as well) and got a copy made. Their equipment essentially "clones" the existing key so the car can't tell the difference. Hondas may be different.

The problem is, I have lost faith in what the dealer is telling me. Not sure if it is the gray hair or they just treat everyone like they are stupid. When asked if they could have reprogrammed the 2 new keys to match the car and the one key the wife drove in with he replied "I don't know" The sign over his counter position said "Honda Specialists". The did finally cross out the $80 they were going to charge me, but they still avoided my questions.

Doing more reading on the battery issue and it seems there is a more recent service bulletin and apparently the program upgrade isn't 100% successful. About the time the wife gets stuck somewhere they are going to find out why I have all of those gray hairs.

As for the keys, we should probably have gone to a locksmith. From what I'm reading they would cut the key as needed and clone it without changing all the others. I then read, if I were to lose all keys they could disassemble a lock and retrieve the code from inside. Hmmm, will that code now work since the car and all keys have been reprogrammed?

I'm learning.
