2001 saturn

Hello, daughter has a 2001 Saturn 4 door sedan, recently started losing antifreeze and over heating. I looked all over and cant see a leak any where, she needs car to drive to grad school this month. Any advice? Thanks

If there is no leak it must be a head gasket, and its getting sucked into the engine and burned. Notice any extra smoke out the exhaust?

The coolant can only go 3 places; outside due to a leak or overflow, out the exhaust or into the oil with the latter two usually being a head gasket. How much coolant is it using?

If it is overheating , look for other issues , too . Make sure the thermostat is opening up properly . If it has electric radiator fans , make sure they are coming on .

Does it over heat if the A/C is not on ? Any radiator air flow restrictions ? Is the suction hose on the water pump , to the radiator soft and collapsing with higher engine RPM's ?

Any chance there is a small leak than only happens when driving down the road . After the system is warmed up & pressured up ?

As some one else has indicated , check for coolant in the engine oil .

Check / replace the radiator cap . Check the coolant reservoir tank for a leak . Check / replace the hose between the reservoir & the radiator .

God bless

Check the coolant level when she gets home .

AFTER it cools off !

Can you smell antifreeze ? That is another sign of a leak , somewhere .

God bless

If you smell anti-freeze in the cabin that often indicates a heater core leak. If so, check for dampness on the passenger side under the glove box.
